Violent Femmes Curate Hobart Festival
There’s a new reason to visit Hobart: the MONA FOMA Festival of Music and Art, to be curated by Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes, launching in 2009. MONA FOMA (short for Museum of Old and New Art, Festival of Music and Art) will be centred around the MONA’s home in the Morilla vineyard, as well as in other hip locations across the Tasmanian capital. Headlining the musical part of the event will be Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, with guests The Saints, for the first time ever in Tassy. The rest of the programme will feature artists and musicians from around the world, including Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the USA. It’s being held 9 – 12 January so visit mofo.net.au.

Head to kitkaboodle.com.au for more information.
The Streets Sideshow Announced
Aside from confusing PR companies with his moniker, Mike Skinner likes to tour. For the last time, The Streets is one person. Mike Skinner is The Streets. There will be no more “Mike Skinner’s The Streets” or “Mike Skinner and The Streets” or “The Streets are touring.” Mike Skinner is one fucking guy, as is The Streets. He might have a band with him, but The Streets is an individual. Anyway, he is playing a sideshow – alongside his Playground Weekender appearance – Thursday 5 February at The Forum. Tickets are available from Moshtix and the venue. Info at forumsydney.com.au.

Wham Third Birthday
Keeping with the theme of ‘blow up instruments and balloons’, the Wham crew are throwing a third birthday bash. They’ve recruited Act Yo Age, Sleater Brockman and Kato, alongside others, to spin tunes. It’s going down this Saturday at World Bar.
